In a recent development, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has appointed Bhumika Tewari as the Head of Content Acquisition and Film Distribution. One of the leading production units of the Hindi film industry, Dharma spread its film distribution business recently. As per the reports, the production house, which expected major distributors to release their films, has entered into the film distribution spectrum.
Under Bhumika’s leadership, the production house will focus on acquiring films across various languages while independently distributing its own productions and third-party films.

The production house aims to bring diverse narratives and nurture regional talents and plans to establish regional hubs across the country, starting off from Delhi, Punjab, Hyderabad and Chennai to streamline operations and strengthen ties with local talent and filmmakers.
On being a part of Karan’s production unit, Bhumika shared that joining Dharma Productions was an extraordinary opportunity to work with a team that has consistently redefined Indian cinema. She added that she was excited to expand Dharma’s reach into new markets, champion regional storytelling, and amplify the diversity of content available to audiences.
Karan Johar, Chairman of Dharma Productions, expressed that entering the distribution space was a significant step forward for Dharma Productions, and the team was pleased to have Bhumika lead this initiative.
Bhumika Tewari, who used to be the head of distribution at Zee Studios, joined Dharma Productions earlier this year. Notably, Karan has worked with her in the past for films made by Dharma and Zee, like Good Newwz (2019), Kesari (2019), and others.
Bhumika, who started her career as a programming manager in 1997, has acquired wide experience in film distribution and marketing. Entered as the head of Worldwide Film Theatrical Distribution in Zee Entertainment in 2017, she later extended her prowess in content revenue monetization. In 2021, she was promoted as the head of Hindi film acquisition and content revenue monetization.

She also worked in the worldwide theatrical distribution of films in languages like Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada. Bhumika has also worked on films like Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, GADAR 2, 12th Fail, Kashmir Files, Hostel Hudugaru (Kannada), King of Kotha (Malayalam), Gode Gode Cha (Punjabi), Vaalvi (Marathi), Valamai (Tamil), Nerkonda Paarvai (Tamil), among others.
On the film front, Karan Johar is expected to begin 2025 with Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, followed by an untitled period legal drama starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday.
