The iconic film of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ), will be turning 30 this year. To the audience’s surprise, this milestone of the film will now be commemorated by Britain’s railway system and Bollywood titan Yash Raj Films (YRF). The film was released in 1995.

The British railways have teamed up with YRF for a cultural celebration of two milestones: the railway’s 200th anniversary and the 30th year of the blockbuster DDLJ. The unique collaboration with Yash Raj Films aims to highlight the unifying power of love through a special UK-India cultural celebration.

The announcement is part of Valentine’s Day festivities recognising the romance of rail travel. It centres on Come Fall in Love—The DDLJ Musical, YRF’s stage adaptation premiering at Manchester Opera House on May 29. The musical will play through until 21 June 2025.

If you are wondering about the connection between the film and the British railways, worry not. DDLJ, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead role, was extensively shot in the UK, with the iconic Cross Railway Station serving as the backdrop where the film’s lead pair first meet and discover their deep love for each other.

YRF is currently producing a musical adaptation of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, titled Come Fall in Love—The DDLJ Musical (CFIL). The production will feature the original score, complete with 18 English songs.

The creative team of the initiative also includes choreographer Rob Ashford (Disney’s Frozen), co-choreographer for Indian dances Shruti Merchant (Taj Express), scenic designer Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), and casting director David Grindrod from Grindrod Burton Casting.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, this film emerged to be a blockbuster and collected Rs. 102 crores at the box office. Alongside Shah Rukh and Kajol, the film also stars Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal, Satish Shah, and others in prominent roles.
