Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer Dhadak 2 hit the big screen on Friday, August 1, amid high expectations from film-goers. While the movie garnered significant praise and acclaim, with positive reviews both the storytelling and performance pouring in, there was criticism too.

The film showed the struggles of young romantic relationships that have been caged by caste politics and social injustice. Users on social media have praised the filmmakers’ bravery in storytelling and the honesty of the performances.

“A film around social issues should have two qualities, ie, bravery in storytelling & honesty in performances! #Dhadak2 has both brimming to the verything lands! “The performances, the dialogue, the emotional depth, the anger against retaliation & the messaging,” wrote an X user, Amar Singh Rathore.

Another page, Sagar Talkies, observed that Dhadak 2 is a compelling blend of realism and emotion, and stands out for its grounded storytelling and raw intensity. Lauding the leading characters in the movie, the reviewer opined that while Triptii Dimri lends quiet depth to her role, Siddhant Chaturvedi delivered a breakout performance.

The social media page then pointed out the movie’s soundtrack is slightly underwhelming. The film’s message and execution make it a worthy watch. The first half unfolds with heartfelt moments, capturing the gradual progression of a sincere bond. “A powerful scene featuring Saurabh leaves a lasting mark,” Talkies wrote, adding that after the interval, the narrative took a hard turn by tackling caste issues with unflinching honesty and emotional weight.

“The climax is unexpected and deeply affecting,” the X user added.

Taran Adarsh, a film critic, opined the movie script was a sharp writing and captivating, but claimed its love story lacks the soul-stirring soundtrack that elevated the first part. He praised the director Shazia Iqbal fo tackling the sensitive theme with honesty and restraint.

“The first half feels uneven – a few impactful moments aside, the narrative takes time to find its footing… But the interval episode turns the tide, setting the stage for a gripping and emotionally charged second half. It’s the post-interval portions that truly elevate the narrative – the drama is riveting, and the emotional graph soars… The finale – the chase followed by Siddhant‘s intense outburst – is an absolute knockout. The comparisons with Dhadak [Part 1] are inevitable – that film had a timeless soundtrack that still resonates… Dhadak2 has a decent soundtrack, but it lacks that one standout track that could have elevated the love story to greater heights,” the movie critic wrote.

User, Advait Akash Shah called for a boycott of the movie, claiming Dhaka 2 is a deep state-sponsored initiative to keep caste divisions and hatred alive. Reject such propaganda. “Reject anti-Dharma narratives. Boycott Dhadak 2. #BoycottDhadak2 #StopCastePropagandaSharp writing… “Captivating, emotionally-charged second half,” the user wrote on X.
