Family Moves To High Court Against Mammootty's Upcoming Release 'Bramayugam'

With just two days left for the release of the much-anticipated Mammootty’s horror movie Bramayugam, the “Punjamon Illam,” a Namboodiri homestead in Kottayam has moved to the High Court demanding the prohibition of the release of the movie. The family seeks to withdraw the censor certificate provided to the Mammootty starrer movie alleging that it would  damage their reputation by showcasing the family practising dark magic.

One of the Punjamon family members P M Gopi filed the plea against the movie and the Court has subsequently sought an explanation from the parties involved. The petition has noted that the information to the film suggests that the story was taken from the famed Aithihyamala, written by kottarathil sankunni, which had mentioned the Punjamon Illam as traditionally performing Poojas and mantras. The family argue that the antagonist of the movie, Kunjamon Potti, is depicted practising dark magic, forcing the family to move against the film claiming it would bring ill repute to the family.

The family further argued that the movie starring an actor like Mammootty would create strong impact in society on the Punjan family. The family further said that the film-makers had not contacted them to explain anything about the movie regarding their family and they are afraid that the movie would showcase them in a demeaning manner in the society.

The movie directed by Rahul Sadasivan released its teaser last month and its trailer this month, showing Mammootty in an antagonist role. The teaser shows mysterious sequences, sparking curiosity about the plot. The movie is set to hit theatres on 15 February.
