Hansal Mehta Loved Dunki; Social Media Is Not Happy About It

Shah Rukh Khan”s Dunki, released on December 21, is receiving mixed responses. Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan“s third release after Pathaan and Jawan, is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. As the movie is continuing its run in theatres, director Hansal Mehta”s opinion about Dunki opened debates on social media.

Taking to X, Hansal Mehta expressed his love for Dunki despite its flaws. He wrote: “I really enjoyed #Dunki. Not perfect but so what. It’s perfectly fine. It gave me what I miss at the movies. It was nostalgic, heartfelt, simple and an ode to what our films once used to be. Not a film I want to overanalyse or overthink. Give me a Rajkumar Hirani film any day. Nice to end the year with Shah Rukh Khan tugging at your heartstrings, looking into her eyes with love and playing a softie. Lovely ensemble and an enduring charm pervades the film which is not a drama, not a comedy, not a tragedy and not a thriller. It is a Rajkumar Hirani film all the way. Go watch it and decide for yourself.”

Since Hansal Mehta belonged to the section of the audience that liked the film, his positive review did not sit well with a group of social media audience members who disliked the film. Below his tweet, there were mixed reactions of users expressing their opinion about the film. Some users wrote comments personally attacking the director over his positive review about the film. A user @DOCTORATLARGE wrote: “When you”ve wasted your time on a bad movie but you rationalize it because you don”t want to piss off your friends who made it”. Hansal Mehta responded the user”s comment with a statement: “I would rather be irrational than cynical.”

However, the negative messages concerning the film did not subsided. The director on Tuesday wrote a social media post saying that while expressing opinion on a film, responding it with hate, scorn and disrespect reflect one”s character than opinion about the film.
