Social Media Won't Decide Congress Chief Minister; Discussions Unnecessary: Ramesh Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has strongly dismissed ongoing social media debates regarding the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Kerala, labeling them as unnecessary and harmful to party unity.
Speaking to the press, Chennithala emphasised that the Congress party has a well-established democratic process for leadership selection that does not rely on online trends or digital campaigns.

Chennithala clarified that the selection of a Chief Minister is a decision strictly under the jurisdiction of the Congress High Command. He noted that the party follows systematic methods where, once the election results are out and a majority is secured, the leadership consults with elected representatives before taking a final call.
The Congress leader then urged supporters and workers to refrain from premature celebrations or pushing specific names on platforms like Facebook and X, as the High Command holds the final authority.

Chennithala’s statement comes amidst a flurry of social media activity favoring various top leaders, including K.C. Venugopal. Chennithala warned that such public posturing could dampen the morale of grassroots workers who have worked tirelessly for a UDF victory. He noted that the focus should remain on the collective success of the United Democratic Front rather than individual ambitions.
Addressing the recent posts by other senior leaders that sparked this debate, Chennithala remarked that while everyone is entitled to their opinions, the party’s discipline must be maintained. He called for an immediate end to these unproductive discussions to ensure the party remains focused on governance and the public mandate.
