Laapata Ladies is being celebrated by fans and critics alike. While audience appreciate the film for its beautiful story and brilliant making, critics continue to peel new layers off the psychology behind the names of the characters and the context in which they are placed. Responding to reporters, Kiran Rao, the director of the film said that she is very thankful for immense positive response. She said she feel humbled and beyond grateful. “honestly, as a filmmaker, this is the only award I can ever ask for, the love that I”ve been getting. I just feel very fortunate and I want to thank everybody who went out and saw the film in cinemas”, said Rao. She further added that she i s happy that she was able to “touch you”, and she hopes to give something meaningful again.
The Laapata Ladies revolves around an incident that occurs after a marriage. The story is set in 2001 in rural India, two brides get separated on a train journey and thus a police officer Manohar investigates the missing case. Departing from the typical cinematic landscape of Bollywood that often slant towards the regressive and hypermasculine ideals, Kiran Rao’s Laapata Ladies (Lost Ladies) embraces nuance textures of the uncomfortable realities fringed within the society. Staying true to its name, the film depicts the lives of a bunch of women who are lost in different ways and ultimately discover their true selves.
The film is jointly produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Pictures and presented by Jio Studios. The movie features an ensemble cast including Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in significant roles.
