How To Repost On Instagram: Everything You Need To Know About The New Feature

Instagram, owned by Meta, has officially launched a long-awaited feature: the ability to repost Reels and feed posts, finally catching up with TikTok and Twitter-like functionalities.

Until now, users could only share posts via Stories (which disappear after 24 hours) or collaborate on a post with mutual approval. With this update, users can now repost content with a single tap, and those reposts will appear not only in their friends’ feeds but also in a new “Reposts” tab on their profile.

To repost, users simply need to tap the repost icon (between the comment and share icons) on any public Reel or feed post. The original creator is automatically credited, and reposts may be shown to mutual friends or even followers who haven’t followed the original creator, thus expanding reach.

The repost feature is part of a broader update aimed at making Instagram more social and participatory. Alongside reposts, the platform is also launching two other features: Friend Map and a Friends feed inside the Reels tab.

The Friend Map, similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map, lets users share their last active location with selected friends. Location sharing is entirely opt-in and can be customised — users can choose to share with Close Friends only, exclude specific people, or disable it completely.

For concerned parents, Instagram’s supervision tools enable the management of teen location settings. The Friends feed in the Reels tab aims to streamline how users discover and interact with content shared by people they care about most.
