Actor Varun Dhawan, who is gearing up for his Christmas release Baby John, clarified that the film is not a remake of the 2016 Tamil film Theri. Then what is it? Here is the actor’s explanation of his high-octane action flick.
The collaboration of the duo Varun Dhawan and director Kalees has cooked a mass action entertainer packed with action, drama, comedy, romance, and additional cuteness. With an ensemble cast featuring Varun, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, and Sanya Malhotra, this cop story promises an intense action ride.
Even though audiences consider this action flick a remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster film Theri, Varun Dhawan clarified that the film is not a scene-by-scene remake but an adaptation.

Explaining the same, the actor said that Atlee, one of the producers of the film, has proposed it with a lot of changes in the geography of the film and has used it as an adaptation and not really as a proper remake of the original film.
Moreover, Varun also added that if audiences expect it to be a book-by-book remake, they would be disappointed because it’s an adaptation. He also highlighted the changes that were made in terms of frames and story angles.
Theri starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu alongside Vijay. The film also featured Amy Jackson, Prabhu Deva, and others in key roles.
