Vikrant Massey opened up about his diverse family. The family include, a Sikh mother, a Christian father, a brother who converted to Islam during his teens, a Hindu wife, and Vikrant himself. During an interview with Samdish in the latest episode of Unfiltered, Massey said he had witnessed “lot of arguments” to religion and spirituality while growing up.
Talking about his elder brother, Massey said that while his name is Vikrant, his brother’s name is Moeen. He said that was because his brother converted to Islam during his teenage years, as his family let him to do so. Massey said his parent told his brother that if he finds satisfaction in that religion, the he can follow that.
The 12th Fail actor said, “My mother is Sikhni, my father is church-going Christian, he goes to church twice a week. From a young age, I have seen a lot of arguments to religion and spirituality”. Massey went on to add that when the relatives would question his family about his brother converting to Islam, the father would say that his son can choose what he wants.
Vikrant Massey said after seeing his brother, he went on his own quest “wondering what exactly is religion”. According Massey, religion is “man made”.
The star, who is married to Sheetal Thakur recently became a father. He said their aim as a couple is to teach their son “rationalism”, and added that there are certain things which are “authentically Indian” which he respects a lot.
The actor went on to say that he believes in Hindu culture. He said he believe in that because of the cultural affiliation and one does not need to be religious. He said Hindu culture is followed by the majority people of his country. He said, “Diwali is celebrated only in India, so I celebrate it as well. It is my muscle memory, my childhood memory”.
He said he do not believe that Laxmi Puja will bring wealth but will do it because he grew up witnessing it. He said, “My father would do it. He goes to church twice a week, but he also does puja with my mother and my wife. So, it is a beautiful house”.
