At last, after a teaser trailer for another teaser trailer (you read that right), the much-awaited Superman trailer has landed. A fresh take on the DC superhero by none other than director James Gunn, with David Corenswet taking the mantle of Henry Cavill.
The first good luck of the Kryptonian hero is bruised and bloodied in a frozen landscape. With laboured breathing, he whistles for rescue. His trusty canine friend Krypto enters as an electric guitar goes off in the background. “Take me home,” he says as the music crescendos. Two other words spoken in the teaser trailer is a young boy holding a flag and muttering with hope, “Superman, Superman.”

James Gunn’s Superman is all about hope, evident from the visuals but more so with the powerful and inspiring, with a touch of the classics, music that captures the essence of the superhero himself.
The movie won’t go all the way back with pushing Superman’s origin story into our faces. As previously stated by Gunn, in this version of the film, Superman is already an established hero, and people know him.
So far, the only synopsis we have is: “James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humour, and heart, delivering a SUPERMAN who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
And if his previous DC and Marvel projects are to go by, Superman is not going to be explicitly comedic, but it will be more grounded and a fantasy.
Two days before dropping the trailer, Gunn had posted a sneaky teaser showing the Superman logo engraved in metal with the caption, “Superman trailer Thursday.” Before that, he shared the motion poster with the first and official look of Corenswet’s Superman mid-flight.
The Superman trailer is the defining moment of the DCU with Gunn’s take on the mighty superhero. Will this finally be the project that (finally) kickstarts the DC universe’s new era? We can only wait and watch.
