Salaam Venky is a Revathy helmed drama. The movie said to be an adaptation of the book The Last Hurrah by Shrikant Murthy, which is based on a true story of Kolavennu Vankatesh, a young chess player who suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He fought the illness for eighteen years along with his mother K Sujatha who put up a fierce battle to give her son what he deserves.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a condition that weakens the skeletal and heart muscles. At his final stage, Vankatesh fought the legal battle for euthanasia but the court rejected his plea. He died two days after receiving the rejection from the court.

The movie hit theatres in December 9, 2022. Kajol was accompanied by Vishal Jethwa, Rahul Rose, Rajeev Khandelwal, Ahana Kumra and Prakash Raj in key roles. Amir Khan played a cameo role in the movie.

Adding to the memories, Salaam Venky in marked Revathy’s return to film making after her movie, Phir Milenge starring Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. She took a gap of 18 years from film making and then came back with a beautiful entry. Earlier this year, while addressing a conclave, Revathy said she held the story of Salaam Venky for 15 years in her heart. In the initial stage, Kajol rejected the movie calling it the “worst nightmare” of all mothers but Revathy convinced the star to do the movie.
