As a spectacular cinematic treat, Vijay Sethupathi‘s Maharaja has been creating records at the box office, emerging as one of the top films of the year to have crossed the benchmark of Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office.

The Tamil film industry had finally got a hold in the Indian markets with a massive hit of Nithilan Saminathan’s Maharaja grossing over 100 crore worldwide in its third weekend. With a compelling storyline holding the mystery till the end, which got its shape through the stellar performance of Makkal Selvan, the film holds its place at the box office securing Rs 76 crore in India and around Rs 24 crore overseas.

The emergence of Vijay Sethupathi‘s 50th film in the box office has surpassed the previous records made by other releases of this year including  Aranmanai 4 as the top-grossing Tamil film of the year at the worldwide box office. The report mentioned that the horror-comedy finished its worldwide run at Rs 99 crore gross even though the film’s team claims that it went past Rs 100 crore.

With its successful theatrical run, Maharaja is now expected to collect around Rs 105 crore gross by the end of its run at the ticket window. Crossing over 100 crores, this film made a massive turnover with Kalki 2898 AD doing wonders at the box office, both domestically and internationally. Starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in the lead, the film is running wild globally with a gross collection of over Rs 600 crore in five days, specifically 23 crores from Tamil Nadu. Back home, the Nag Ashwin directorial has collected Rs 343 crore net, including the first Monday business which proved its stronghold at the box office.
