Veteran Tamil actor Rajesh, who was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Porur, Chennai, passed away this morning, May 29. He was 75 years old.

Known for his contribution to Tamil cinema for more than 50 years, the prominent actor was under medical care. He passed away at around 8:15 am, reportedly due to respiratory failure.

The renowned actor and dubbing artist is a very popular figure in Tamil cinema, who has worked in more than 150 films in a span of around 50 years. Apart from Tamil, he has also worked in Malayalam and Telugu films at the early stages of his career.

Actor Rajesh, who worked as a teacher in the 70s, began his acting career as a supporting actor in director K. Balachander’s 1974-released drama film, Aval Oru Thodar Kathai. Later, he established himself as a lead actor in the 1979 romantic film Kanni Paruvathile.

His role in Bhagyaraj’s film Andha 7 Naatkal also impressed many. He had acted in films including Paasagal Miladhilai, Achamaili Achamaili, and Pudu Pudu Raagangal. He continued to act in character roles even after 2000.

He also continued to impress the audience as a character artist through some of the blockbuster films of Kamal Haasan like SathyaMahanadhi and Virumaandi.

As a dubbing artist, he has also lent his voice to actors like Murali, Nedumudi Venu and Joy Mathew. He dubbed actor Murali’s blockbuster films like Dumm Dumm Dumm (2001), Joot (2003), Majaa (2005), Ullam Ketkume (2005), Raam (2005).

In recent times he was seen in films like Vijay’s Sarkar (2018) and Master (2021), Vijay Sethupathi’s Merry Christmas (2024), Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir (2023), and other films like Yaanai (2022), Rudhran (2023), and Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam (2023). He has also acted in various television serials. Recently, he has also been popular on YouTube.
