What Ashwath likely didn’t expect was the flood of responses that followed. Within a short period, he received a whopping 15,000 applications from candidates.
The director had initially planned to hire just 10 assistant directors to work on his future films, but the overwhelming interest led him to double the number of positions.
In a follow-up social media message, Ashwath announced that he would now hire 20 assistant directors — 10 for each of his next two films.

Ashwath has made it clear that despite the massive response, he intends to maintain a fair and transparent selection process.
In his message, he assured applicants that the process would be uniform for everyone, regardless of how actively they had tagged or messaged him on social media.
“Please understand that the process remains the same for all 15,000 applicants,” Ashwath stated, emphasising that his team would take the necessary time to carefully review each resume.
Ashwath Marimuthu’s journey to success began with the release of Oh My Kadavule in 2020. The romantic comedy, which starred Ashok Selvan and Rithika Singh, won hearts for its innovative storyline that explored love and destiny in a fresh, relatable way.
The film’s success led Ashwath to adapt it into a Telugu version, Ori Devuda, which also received a warm reception from audiences.
In 2024, Ashwath announced his next film, Dragon, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, and Kayadu Lohar.
The romantic fantasy drama became an instant hit upon its release in 2025, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success.
Dragon went on to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, cementing Ashwath’s reputation as one of the most promising directors in the industry.
His third Tamil film, which stars popular actor Silambarasan, is currently in production, and expectations are high for the director’s next cinematic venture.
