Stand-up Comedian Munawar Faruqui expressed his public apology for his controversial ‘joke’ about the Konkani people, which created an uproar on social media.
Munawar Faruqui during his recent performance in Taloja, as a part of his joke made a derogatory remark about Konkanis saying, “Konkani Log Chu**** Banate Hai,” which translates to “Konkanis fool others.” This video soon surfaced online and emerged as a topic of discussion as various users found the comedian’s statement as an offensive remark.

The Big Boss season 17 winner reacting to this outrage, posted a video, explaining what actually went down. Faruqui has clarified that his comments were part of “crowd work,” a common practice in stand-up comedy involving interaction with the audience.
In the video, he expressed his regret for hurting the sentiments of people and also expressed that his intention was not to hurt anyone. He also said that the people whom he made the joke about also enjoyed the show and there were people from all backgrounds at the show — Marathis, Muslims, and Hindus.
Munawar also stressed the point of how such things are seen on the internet. He also added that he understood the issue and wanted to apologize to all and ended his note with “Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra.”

BJP MLA in Maharastra, Nitesh Rane posted a video, where he said “Won’t take long to send a green snake like you to Pakistan”, and this comment from a political figure added fuel to the outrage.

However, the fans of the comedian offered their support and some even referred to the politician’s remark as a political game, as one user wrote: “his politics is going against Muslim Minorities but we know your intentions, even people of Maharastra knows you and I request Maharastra people to be smart and boycott these type of politicians whose creating a rift between Hindus and Muslim brothers.”
Notably, this is not the first time Faruqui has faced controversy for his humor. In 2021, he was criticized for allegedly mocking Lord Ram, leading to his arrest and subsequent bail. The previous incident also resulted in severe online trolling and cancellations of several of his shows.
