He said that smacking a boy was part of the scene he was about to shoot and mistakenly slapped the fan thinking that he is one of the crew members. But later learned that he was a real fan. Talking in Hindi in the video, he said, “Namskar.  A video is going viral where I hit a boy. There is a sequence in the film where a boy comes from behind and says ‘Ae budhau, topi bechni hai (hey old man, do you want to sell your hat)?” and I catch him, smack him and ask him to behave properly and he runs away.”

He further explained that they just had one rehearsal of the movie scene and while going for the second rehearsal, the boy barged in. The actor thinking that the boy was part of the crew slaps him and asks him to leave as per the scene. “I was going to call him back but he ran away. Maybe his friend shot the video. I have never said no to anybody for a photo. I don”t do this…This happened by mistake… If there is some misunderstanding, please forgive me… I will never do anything like this…”he added.

He disappointedly added that he wished to apologise to the boy but he ran away out of fear and thus couldn’t be tracked down.

Hours after the video has gone viral, the director of the film Anil Sharma said to PTI that Patekar didn’t intentionally slapped anyone and the slap shot was part of the film “Journey” which is being shot in the Varanasi. And he also added that Patekar plays the role of a character suffering from dementia. He said that there were so many people while shooting the scene and someone might have clicked that particular portion of the shoot, which was actually one of the scenes from the film.
