After the reports over the establishment of Progressive Filmmakers Association in Mollywood made a round, director Lijo jose pellissery, announced that he is not the part of the association.

In his Facebook post, the director mentioned that his filmmaker-friend Aashiq Abu shared an idea about forming an independent community of creative filmmakers, which he welcomed as a good initiative. And currently he is not a part of the association. The director also clarified that even though he appreciates the move, any information circulating under his name in the media is not accurate.

“I am not currently a part of the film group spreading in the media. Friend and director Ashik Abu had shared his idea about such a group with me. I agree with the idea of an independent community of creative filmmakers and welcome one.I wish to be a part of such a community, it will be an official announcement from my side. Until then, nothing spreading in my name is not with my knowledge.”

Previous reports suggested that a proposal for this new association was initiated with an open letter by notable filmmakers Aashiq Abu, Anjali Menon, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Rajeev Ravi, Rima Kallingal, and Binesh Chandra. Moreover, it was also reported that the new association aims to bring a change in the Malayalam film industry, according to the modern systems, legal frameworks and collective responsibility. Emphasizing the values of equality, cooperation and social justice, the organization aims to ensure that the rights of employees and the producers are protected and help the industry to grow.
