Amidst the chaos of the ongoing Los Angeles wildfire, the world is confused over the planned prestigious Oscars 2025. But is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences seriously considering cancelling the 97th Oscar ceremony? Here is the truth.

A report claiming that Oscars 2025 is on the verge of being cancelled for the first time in its 96-year history went viral on the internet, speculating on the possible postponement of the prestigious event.

Moreover, reports also went on to suggest that the official Academy Award committees are monitoring the situation daily, led by stars including Tom Hanks, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, and Steven Spielberg.

Slamming the rumours shut, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that no such plan of calling off the event was contemplated by the committee, and no such advisory committee exists.

However, the latest decision from the board, announced on January 13, confirmed that the Oscars ceremony, scheduled in 47 days, will proceed on its set date without any changes.

Following the tragedy of the Los Angeles wildfires, the board committee, which includes four members who lost their homes in the fires, has made several adjustments. These include extending the Oscar nominations voting window, delaying the announcement of the nominations, cancelling this year’s Oscar Nominees Luncheon, and more.

The new date for the 97th Oscar nominations is now set for January 23, as confirmed by Academy chief executive Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang. The announcement will be made virtually without in-person media coverage. The Oscars ceremony is still slated to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
