Los Angeles Declares State Of Emergency As Massive Warehouse Fire Continues

Los Angeles, United States: Los Angeles authorities have declared a local emergency on Saturday, June 20 over a massive stubborn warehouse blaze that continues to burn the area, triggering large plumes of smoke into the air.

Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared an emergency as firefighters continued battling the warehouse fire that has burned for days. Thick smoke prompted health concerns and air quality warnings, while officials worked to prevent environmental damage and support affected residents.

Karen Bass said that the situation is a major, multi-jurisdictional incident. The emergency declaration will ensure the city has the resources it needs. The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a 500,000-square-foot (46,400-square-meter) frozen food warehouse.

According to reports citing officials, the burning foam insulation, suspected ammonia leakage and melting solar panels have complicated the firefight. The warehouse fire is reportedly spewing toxic air including ammonia into the sky for the fourth day in a row. Video shows thick smoke rising into the sky, causing concerns among the residents.
