“Our Integrity Sells For So Little”: Amal Neerad’s Post On Ram Temple Inauguration

A day after the grand inauguration ceremony of Ram Temple took place in Ayodhya, acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Amal Neerad lodged his protest to the event through his social media post.

Ace director sharing an old photograph of Babri Masjid, before its demolition in 1992, wrote Alan Moore’s words from the movie V from Vendetta as caption. “Our integrity sells for so little, but it is all that we really have. It is the very last inch of us. But within that inch, we are free,” he wrote. The film V for Vendetta deals with the theme of rise of totalitarian dictatorship to power.

Within hours of sharing the post, it garnered attention. When some responded positively for the post, some questioned his “selective” stand while expressing issues.

On Monday, hours before the consecration ceremony, several Mollywood celebrities including directors and actors has shared Preamble of the Indian Constitution on their social media handles. Actors Rima Kallingal, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Rajesh Madhavan, and directors Aashiq Abu, Jeo Baby, Kunjila Mascillamani, Kamal KM, and singer Sooraj Santhosh are the personalities from the Malayalam film industry shared the photos of the preamble as to remind the secular, socialist, and democratic values enshrined in the Constitution.

Meanwhile, the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple was attended by Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Rohit Shetty. From the south, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Dhanush, and Ram Charan participated in the ceremony. At the same time, several opposition leaders boycotted the event critiquing its political nature.
