The much-anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD will move forward without one of its most celebrated stars. Producers Vyjayanthi Movies officially announced that Deepika Padukone, who played a pivotal role in the first instalment, will not be part of director Nag Ashwin’s upcoming continuation of the epic sci-fi saga.

In a statement shared on social media, the production house explained that the decision was reached after extended discussions, stressing that a project of this scale requires complete dedication from its cast.

While the collaboration between the actor and the banner was fruitful in the original film, both sides agreed to part ways before work on the sequel intensified.

Deepika’s portrayal in Kalki 2898 AD had been integral to the story, earning her widespread praise for her role. Her absence will undoubtedly shift the dynamics of the sequel, which continues to feature marquee names such as Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan.

The makers have yet to reveal who will step into the role she leaves behind, a casting decision that is already fueling speculation across the industry.

The announcement comes at a time when Padukone has been carefully balancing her professional choices with personal commitments. After stepping away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit earlier this year, reports indicated that she was seeking healthier work conditions and a more sustainable schedule following the birth of her daughter. Industry watchers believe these considerations may have influenced her decision on Kalki 2898 AD as well.

Despite her departure from two major projects, Deepika’s calendar remains active. She is preparing to star opposite Allu Arjun in Atlee’s upcoming film, marking their first on-screen pairing.
