Rajpal Yadav Sentenced To 3 Months In Jail, Ordered To Pay Complainants In Rs 9 Crore Cheque Bounce Cases

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Friday, July 10, upheld the conviction of actor Rajpal Yadav to 3 months jail in seven cheque bounce cases against him. The court also ordered Yadav to pay Rs 1.05 crore in each case to the complainant.

He also has to pay Rs 25,000 to the state. The high court further directed his wife Radha Yadav to pay Rs 5.51 crore to the complainant in each case. Notably, the court reduced his jail sentence from six month to three months.

The court rejected Yadav’s  petition seeking the benefit of probation under the Probation of Offenders Act, stating that the actor was not entitled to such relief in view of his conduct during the proceedings.

While delivering the verdict, a bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma pointed out that  Yadav had given multiple undertakings assuring payment of the amount involved in the case but failed to honour them despite being granted repeated opportunities.

The high court thus refused to interfere with the conviction.
