A buy one, get one free offer has been brought in to attract an audience.
According to Sacnik, the film earned a mere Rs. 1.05 crore on its first day. There was a slight rise in earnings on Saturday, with Rs 2.25 crore, and Rs 2.7 crore on Sunday, on account of Holi. The slight uptick continued on Monday, earning Rs 2.15 crore. Tuesday experienced a significant dip as the film struggled to maintain momentum, earning only Rs 1.10 crore. The overall reception of the film remains lukewarm.
In total, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has earned around Rs 9.15 crore, as per the trade portal Sacnik.
Directed by Hooda himself, the film follows the story of the controversial Hindutva advocate Vinayak Damodar Savarkar during the independence struggle of India. Several people have denounced the film of painting Savarkar as a freedom fighter as distorting the truth and being a propaganda film.
Reportedly, Hooda took over the direction of the film after Mahesh Manjrekar quit the project, citing differences with the actor regarding the script and inclusion of certain historical figures and events that were irrelevant.
The film also stars Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial. Released on March 22 in both Hindi and Marathi, the film is produced by Zee Studios, Sandeep Singh, Yogesh Rahar, Anand Pandit, and Randeep Hooda.
