India Today said Fighter found its foundation on Tom Cruise’s Top Gun, a 1986 movie, and added that Anand “steers away from any Top Gun comparisons by creating an original palette for the big-ticket shots”. The review said, the plotline of the movie revolves around Pulwama attack and the incidents leading before and after of the attack. It said Fighter’s storyline “flies high on the newfound love of filmmakers to weave in patriotic sentiment in a bonafide potboiler”. It will not hurt to say that the pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone acted as winning stroke, who not only looked good but did justice to their characters when they were in uniforms. India Today called Fighter a “big-screen spectacle”, and soars high on the entertainment quotient.

According to NDTV, Fighter is just another “addition to a tribe trapped in a rut”, like Hrithik Roshan’s other movies War and Lakshya, and not another Top Gun of Tom Cruise. It said Siddharth Anand’s Fighter “struggles to shake off its flat trajectory”. The review read, “despite Deepika Padukone adding to the star power quotient, the film feels vacuous and vapid. The problem lies in its storyline – it is a compilation of cliches”. NDTV called Fighter a fairly watchable movie, and added that “with a little more imagination and a little less jingoism, it could have been scintillating”.

As per the review from Hindustan Times, Fighter, which was touted as India’s first aerial action film, “creates an immersive experience and turns out to be equally impressive”. It said, Fighter is an ode to the relentless and undying courage of the Indian Air Force (IAF), and added that the movie “doesn’t digress or distract, and stays committed to its sole intention — presenting a visually stunning experience and give adrenaline rush that lasts for pretty long”. The review said while Fighter is high on its patriotic element, the movie never resorts to the “chest-thumping” chants of Jia Hind or Hindustan Zindabad. Hindustan Times guarantee that Fighter gives a “Paisa vasool experience”, that will leave the audience with a sense of pride.
