Surya Vijay Sethupathi, son of celebrated actor Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi, is all set to make his hero debut in the much-anticipated Tamil film Phoenix, releasing in theatres worldwide on July 4, 2025.
Presented by AK Braveman Pictures and directed by popular stunt choreographer Anl Arasu in his directorial debut, Phoenix is a sports action drama that blends high-octane stunts with emotionally driven storytelling.

Surya, who previously appeared as a child artist in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) and Sindhubaadh (2019), takes on a full-fledged lead role for the first time. In Phoenix, he aims to carve a space for himself beyond his famous lineage.

The film also stars Abhinakshathra and Varsha as female leads, along with a powerful ensemble cast including J. Vignesh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sampath Raj, Devadarshini, Harish Uthaman, Ajay Ghosh, Aadukalam Naren, Sreejith Ravi, Dileepan, and Aadukalam Murugadoss, among others.

Following the release of the first single “Yaaranda” in October 2024, the second single “Indha Vangiko” dropped earlier this week. A celebratory kuththu number, the track features vibrant visuals, high-energy dance moves by Surya.
The song was launched on social media by none other than Vijay Sethupathi, who expressed his pride and encouragement for his son’s cinematic journey.
Produced by Rajalakshmy Anl Arasu, Phoenix began filming on November 24, 2023, after a formal puja at AVM Studios, Chennai. Initially planned for a November 2024 release, the film was postponed due to certification delays and is now gearing up for a grand July 4 premiere.

The teaser of Phoenix was launched on June 17, 2024, by actor Sivakarthikeyan during a special event held at Le Magic, Nungambakkam. The teaser, filled with fiery stunts and intense drama, has been well received online, building strong momentum ahead of the release.
