'Thangalaan' Director's Cut: The Uncensored Vision To Premiere On The Rotterdam Film Festival
Actor Vikram’s periodic drama and the Pa Ranjith directorial, Thangalaan, are reaching new heights. The director’s uncensored vision of the film is going to premiere at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
The historical film, which was released in theaters on August 15, 2024, stars actor Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, and Malavika Mohanan in lead roles. The Director’s Cut—the uncensored vision of the film—is all set to premiere at IFFR 2025 today at Pathé 5 as part of the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Studio Green, Neelam Productions, and Jio Studios, the film has received praise from both audiences and critics.

After receiving good reviews and a box office record of Rs 105 crores, the film is now getting ready for its worldwide premiere. Based on a real-life incident that happened at the Kolar Gold Factory (KGF) in Karnataka under British rule. The film explores the unexplored history of Tamil Nadu’s Dalits and how they mined and created the KGF.

Vikram plays the role of the ‘Son of Gold,’ and the story is centered around a tribal leader’s fight against those conspiring to snatch their land to mine gold. The period action drama focuses on the themes of struggle and resistance and offers a social commentary on those whose hard work and sweat are often omitted in the pages of history. The film Thangalaan is now streaming on Netflix. The film is available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
