‘The Marvels’ Struggle In Box Office, Registers Ever Lowest Opening For An MCU Film

The 2023 American superhero film based on Marvel comics – The Marvels­ – is reportedly stands struck in box office with the ever lowest opening weekend collection for an MCU banded movie. As per the recent reports, the movie was expected to gross more but is likely to ended up with a $47 million in its opening weekend, which is approximately Rs 3,914,829,750.

The Marvels is an all-female ensemble from the Marvel Cinematic Universe having Brie Larson in the lead role. The movie was directed by Nia Dacosta and was distributed by the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie managed to collect $21.5 million at the at the North American box office on the opening day, reported the Hindustan Times.

The movie was shot in a budget of $200 million (approximately Rs 1656 crore) and was released on Friday, November 10.  Martin Scorsese”s period saga Killers of the Flower Moon, was also made on the same budget of $200 million, but opened with $44 million when it released in cinemas last month.

Since the opening, the movie earned mixed reviews from audience and critics, even though it presented a talented cast catalogue including Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Samuel L Jackson and many more.

Marvel Studios confirmed plans to make a sequel to Captain Marvel in July 2019. The development began in January 2020 with McDonnell hired after working on the television miniseries WandaVision (2021). Larson was set to return from the first film as Danvers, and DaCosta was reportedly hired to direct that August. In December, Parris was revealed to be reprising her role as Rambeau from WandaVision alongside Vellani returning as Kamala from Ms. Marvel.

Cinematography to the movie was done by Sean Bobbit, and editing was managed by Catrin Hedstrom and Evan Schiff. It was written in collaboration by Nia DaCosta Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik while Laura Karpan handled the music.
