Why Anushka Shetty’s 'Ghaati' Is One Of 2025’s Most Awaited Telugu Films?
Anushka Shetty is finally back on the big screen with her much-awaited Telugu action drama Ghaati, which is set to hit theatres on September 5, 2025.
Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film has already created buzz with its gritty story, powerful visuals, and Anushka’s intense role as Sheelavathi, a woman caught in the rebellion of a community against the drug mafia.
In a recent conversation with Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty opened up about her reputation as Telugu cinema’s go-to actress for action-heavy roles. “The amount of violence in my films, Arundhati, Baahubali, and now Ghaati, I was just telling Krish that, just like a hitman, can I be the hitwoman?” she said with a smile. Rana quickly added that no one else could play such roles with the same impact.
The actress also acknowledged the long gaps between her projects, admitting that she wants to work more often. “I definitely want to choose good scripts and work a little more regularly. From next year, you’ll see more of me. That’s something everyone has been asking, and I’m consciously working towards it,” Anushka said, promising fans a stronger screen presence in the coming years.

For director Krish Jagarlamudi, Ghaati marks a reunion with Anushka Shetty after they collaborated on Vedam. At a press meet, Krish said that he always wanted to write another strong character for her. “When Ghaati came to me, the character of Sheelavathi was a perfect fit for Anushka’s grace, attitude, and superstardom,” he said.
The director stressed that while the film’s backdrop involves the illegal marijuana trade along the Andhra–Odisha border, the focus is not on glorification but on deeper themes.
“The film is about identity and survival. Even if people take up such activities for survival, the consequences are very serious,” Krish explained. He also praised cinematographer Manoj Reddy for capturing the natural beauty of the Eastern Ghats, which play a vital role in the film’s atmosphere.
Ghaati tells the story of Sheelavathi, a victim who transforms into a criminal before emerging as a legend. Anushka Shetty leads the film, while Vikram Prabhu makes his Telugu debut as Desi Raju. The ensemble cast also includes Chaitanya Rao Madadi, Jagapathi Babu, Raghav Rudra Mulpuru, Jisshu Sengupta, and John Vijay.

Produced by Yeduguru Rajeev Reddy and Saibabu Jagarlamudi under First Frame Entertainments, with presentation by UV Creations, the movie has seen multiple delays since its announcement in 2024.
After being postponed from earlier release dates in April and July this year, it is finally ready to clash with Mouli’s Little Hearts on September 5.
For fans, Ghaati is more than just another release; it marks the comeback of Anushka Shetty in a full-fledged action role after a long gap. Known for her iconic performances in Arundhati, Rudhramadevi, and Bhaagamathie, Anushka has built a strong image as one of Indian cinema’s most powerful female leads.
