YouTube Cutts Off Russell Brand Revenue After Rape Allegation (image-www.instagram/russellbrand)
YouTube said on Tuesday that they have suspended Russell Brand’s revenue from the online video streaming platform after the British actor and comedian was accused of a series of sexual assault cases. But the YouTube star has come up declining the allegations and said he never had any non-consensual sex.
The YouTube channel said that they are taking this action to protect their viewers. As per BBC, they had removed some programmes featuring the comedian and actor from its streaming services. They have also removed some content from iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
This action was taken by the video platform after he was accused of rape and sexual assaults between 2006 and 2013.
Caroline Dinenage, chair of parliament”s Culture, Media and Sport Committee, said she had written to the BBC plus broadcasters Channel 4 and GBNews, as well as tech firm TikTok regarding the allegations.
Mr Brand, once one of the country”s most high-profile comedians and broadcasters, has over 6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Sara McCorquodale, author and chief executive of social media analysis agency CORQ, estimated Brand made about £2,000 to £4,000 per YouTube video.
A YouTube spokesperson said: “We have suspended monetisation on Russell Brand”s channel for violating our Creator Responsibility policy. If a creator”s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees, or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community.”
“”This decision applies to all channels that may be owned or operated by Russell Brand,” the Google-owned video service confirmed to the BBC.
The allegation about Brand have now become the headlines and dominated coverage ever since emerged. London police says they have got allegation of sexual assault dating from 2003.
Before the allegations was published, Russell issued a video message denying the them. “These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies. Live shows are also now cancelled due to the allegations against him. Russell Brand was earlier married to pop singer Katy Perry for two years. He began his career as a comedian in the early 2000’s. He was known for his work in films including Bedtime Stories and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
