YouTube has issued warning to its users of a phishing scam featuring an AI-generated video of company CEO Neal Mohan. These fake videos shared privately carried the information that the YouTube CEO is announcing changes to the platform’s monetization policy.
In an announcement made in their blog on Tuesday, the company wrote: “We’re aware that phishers have been sharing private videos to send false videos, including an AI generated video of YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan announcing changes in monetization.”

YouTube warned creators to not to fall prey for these fraudulent scams. “YouTube and its employees will never attempt to contact you or share information through a private video,” the company said in the blog.
Continuing further, it said that if a video is shared privately with the user affirming it to be from YouTube, the video is a phishing scam. It has also alerted users against clicking on the links in these videos which can install malware and steal their credentials.
“Do not click these links as the videos will likely lead to phishing sites that can install malware or steal your credentials,” said in the post.
YouTube has also requested users to report such videos so that they can be removed from the platform.

“Many phishers actively target Creators by trying to find ways to impersonate YouTube by exploiting in-platform features to link to malicious content. Please always be aware and make sure not to open untrusted links or files,” YouTube adds.
Recently, many reports have emerged on social media platform Reddit where users claims that they have received an email from YouTube containing a video of CEO Mohan announcing changes in the platform’s payout policy. These emails also directs creators to a file which they were asked to download and fill in order to continue using the monetisation facility of the YouTube.
