New Year Records The Highest Order In Food Delivery Platforms; Biriyani The Higher Ordered Item

Online food delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato saw the highest record in orders on New Year“s Eve, with Swiggy saying it received 1.6 times more orders each minute than the previous record, which the platform had set during the World Cup final. Around 1,244 Biriyanis were ordered per minute on the platform on the New Year”s Eve, totalling over 4.8 lakh biryani orders. The cities where most Biriyanis were ordered were Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Talking about the record-breaking ordering on New Year”s Eve, Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy said that the new year 2024 broke “all records across Swiggy Food and Instamart.” Swiggy further said that Delhi alone saw 16 Lakhs worth of orders on chips and mixers, while Mumbai ordered the highest number of Idli-vadas. Over 22,000 people ordered Amul buttermilk among other items.

Besides Swiggy, other platforms also witnessed the highest number of orders and one such platform is Zepto. The CEO of the platform Aadit Palicha wrote on his X platform: “610 kilograms of ice sold on Zepto just in the last 1 hour (between 5 and 6 pm). Numbers like this one make me pinch myself. Sometimes I honestly can’t believe how big Zepto has become in 2 years,”

When it comes to Blinkit, the founder Albinder said that about 147,512 packets of chips, 68,231 bottles of soda, 2412 packets of ice cubes and 356 lighters were sold on New Year”s Day.

Zomato, an Indian multinational restaurant aggregator, thanked India for tipping over Rs 97 Lakh to the delivery partners. The food delivery platform”s CEO Deepinder Goyal said that they delivered around as many orders in 2023 as they did on New Year”s Day of 2015, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 combined.

However, with the thriving future anticipated in the food delivery industry, the CEOs and managers of the delivery platform have taken to social media, publishing their records of food orders on New Year”s Eve.
