Alison Winterbotham, a UK-based 55-year-old speech therapist is suing her private dentist, Dr Arash Shahrak for allegedly damaging a nerve extracting a wisdom tooth. Winterbotham has reportedly filed a suit for one million pounds (Rs 10,78,77900) in the court. She claimed that following the procedure of the extraction of her wisdom teeth, she has been unable to return fully to work as she experiences continuous pain. She says her career has been adversely affected due to the pain, making it difficult to speak comfortably with her clients.

The treatment was made in November 2020, allegedly leaving her in enduring pain. Winterbotham claims that the dentist did not warn her of the potential consequences of the medical procedure.

Notably, the dentist, Dr Shahrak has denied the allegations saying that he gave comprehensive advice to his consultee before the treatment. He also said that there were no symptoms indicating that Winterbotham was a high-risk patient for the procedure.

Winterbotham says that she suffers constant burning and tingling in her tongue, adding that she desperately wants to proceed with his career. “I’m in pain. Every time I move my tongue to talk a little bit, the nerve gets hyper-stimulated making the burning and tingling even worse. It’s worse when I speak,” The Metro quoted the speech therapist. Due to the pain, she says, she could only talk to two to three counselling clients a day as she needed breaks every time from speaking, adding that many of her consultees could feel her struggle.

However, the case is currently before the High Court.
