As at least 33 people have died after a horrific fire engulfed a game zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Saturday, reports now suggest that the visitors had to sign an agreement waiving some claims and legal rights.. Among others, the agreement has waived the right of visitors to sue the company, Desh Gujarat reports.
The tragedy that happened in a four-year-old temporary amusement park with tin roofs and two floors, charred the bodies of the deceased beyond recognition.
Notably, the signing of the contract, waiving legal right claims was mandatory for the visitor”s access to the TRP game zone. Hence, the visitors had to endure the potential risk of loss, damages, and injury while they were at the zone.
The agreement document, claiming to be from the game zone, is now going viral on social media. “I hereby voluntarily assume that all risk of lose, damage and injury including death that may be sustained by me or any property of mine while TRP Go-Karts and Paintball,” one of the terms in the agreement reads.
However, police have registered a case against six accused operators of the game zone. As per the FIR, the accused endangered the lives of the visitors by creating a game zone without proper firefighting equipment. The operators also did not obtain the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the local fire department.
The FIR hence reportedly mentions that the operators endangered the lives of people despite knowing that a fire in such a structure erected on a 50-meter wide and 60-meter long structure with a height of around two-three storeys using metal sheet fabrication could cause significant damage, including death.
However, following the horrific tragedy, the state government has ordered to shut down all gaming zones across Gujarat until it completes the process of safety checking.
The incident happened on Saturday around 4.30 pm, and nine out of the total 33 dead are children.
