British royal family member Prince Harry, also called as the Duke of Sussex, settled the lawsuit against Mirror Group in a phone hacking case. Prince Harry’s lawyer today (Friday) said that the media house agreed to pay substantial damages and the legal costs. Harry was one among many others who had sued Mirror Group Newspaper for phone hacking and unlawful information gathering. The claimants of the damages from the Newspaper group included actors, celebrities, sports stars and many other high-profile figures

The High Court in December ruled that Mr. Harry was a victim of unlawful information gathering including the phone hacking by journalists of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Sunday People tabloids with the permit of their editors. While hearing the case, Justice Timothy Fancourt said that the phone hacking was widespread and habitual at Mirror Group Newspapers for many years. It also noted that the private investigators were an integral part of the system to collect information unlawfully.

The Court has considered about 33 of 148 articles that the Royal member had complained about. Further, Mr Harry’s lawyer David Sherborne said that Mirror Group Newspapers had admitted the all of his claim. The Newspaper, he says, will pay a substantial additional sum by way of damages.

The Duke of Sussex had been in his suit to hit back against the media over its unlawful news coverage of him and his family. In December, when he won the case, he had said, “Today is a great day for truth, as well as accountability.” Mr Harry was originally awarded 140,600 pounds when he appeared at trial in June.

However, King Charle’s younger son was not in the court for the hearing as she had flown to Britain to see his father following the information that he diagnosed with cancer.
