“Health Services Of UP On A Handcart”: Priyanka Gandhi Slams Poor Health Infrastructure

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior leader of the Congress party accused the BJP government of failing to support the health needs of the people of Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress leader in her post on X, quoting the famous lines of renowned writer Dharamvir Bharti ji “Himalayas on a handcart”, wrote “Health services of UP on a handcart”. Highlighting the unavailability of proper health services in Uttar Pradesh, she wrote in Hindi, “If writer Dharamvir Bharti ji were alive today, instead of writing “Himalayas on a handcart” he would have written “Health services of UP on a handcart”. This creation would not have described the beauty of the Himalayas, but would have been a satirical description of the immense suffering of the people and the chaos in the state.”

The inaccessibility of basic healthcare facilities including ambulances was also brought to attention. “There is no hospital for treatment, if there is a hospital then there is no ambulance, if you reach the hospital on a cart with unbearable pain of a broken bone then there is no doctor.”

Priyanka Gandhi attached a video of the pathetic condition of the commoners struggling to get the sick to the hospital on a handcart.

“I told the patient, “The orthopedic doctor is not there. Come after three days.” There was a promise of good days, but here people are struggling to save their lives,” the post concluded.

Several such incidents were reported over a long period of time. The hospitals in Uttar Pradesh lacked basic facilities including ambulances, stretchers and wheelchairs. Attendants themselves have to drag the patients to reach the hospital ward or parking area. Due to the shortage of doctors, patients wait for hours in order to get proper treatment.
