A jewellery in south Delhi”s Jangpura was stolen between Sunday evening and Monday morning, after thieves bore a hole into the shop. They disconnected the CCTV cameras and escaped with ornaments worth ₹ 20-25 crore as said by the owner.

The theft occurred at Umrao Jewellers in South Delhi”s Bhogal area, where the culprits got into the strongroom in which the locker was placed, by making a hole piercing the wall to the room.

According to the officials, the thieves entered the four-storied building from the terrace and came to the ground floor for the strongroom. They stole the ornaments kept inside the locker after drilling a hole into its wall and escaped along with what kept on display. CCTV and other security and alarm systems in the shop were also found disabled.

“We closed the shop on Sunday and when we opened it on Tuesday after an off on Monday, we saw that there was dust in the whole shop and there was a hole in the wall of the strong room. There was jewellery worth around Rs 20-25 crores”, said Sanjeev Jain, owner of the jewellery shop, to the news agency ANI.

The store was shut on Monday and found about the heist on Tuesday morning when the owner came to open it.

“They entered from the terrace… Everything is damaged including CCTV… An investigation is underway”, Sanjeev Jain added.

An investigation is underway and the police as informed is going through whatever footages retrieved from the CCTV.

“Ornaments worth nearly ₹20-25 crores was stolen from Umrao Singh Jewellery shop in Jangpura’s Bhogal locality. The incident took place post-midnight on Monday (Sept 25). The thieves reached the strong room that has the lockers of the jewellery shop by creating a hole in the wall near it”, Hindustan Times quoted Rajesh Deo, deputy commissioner of police, southeast Delhi. According to them, the thieves took all the gold and diamond ornaments leaving behind those made of silver.
