22-Year-Old Pondicherry University Student Dies By Suicide In Campus Hostel
Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu: In another shocking incident, a 22-year-old, final year B.Sc. Mathematics student, Uma Maheshwari, recently died by suicide by allegedly hanging in her hostel room at Pondicherry University.
The university student from Thiruvarur was found dead in her room. The woman was reportedly in emotional distress, as per the police. Hotel authorities found the woman hanging in her room after her friend alerted them. Though Uma was rushed to Kathirkamam Government General Hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

A video, now circulating on social media, shows the deceased woman explaining her emotional distress and mental health concerns days before ending her life. The video captioned ‘I need help, I can’t help’ states she wanted “rest.” She describes her exhausting daily routine of balancing an internship and a part-time job with no time to rest. In the rant-style video, she stresses the need to listen to people who say they need help and therapy.
Kalapet Police have registered a case and have launched an investigation in connection with the incident.
