Two teachers were reportedly suspended from a Ghaziabad college of engineering in Uttar Pradesh after objecting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans at the college fest. The incident happened on Friday evening as the college was in the mid of a cultural event. A student who was performing, in a sudden chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ from the stage. Two faculties of the college objected the act and asked the student to leave the stage immediately stopping performance.

The suspended professors were identified seniors in the profession and were allegedly objected the religious chanting. As the Deccan Herald reports, the police from the locality have already launched an investigation on the matter and necessary actions will be taken accordingly. The college reportedly organized the cultural event as part of an induction program. Both the suspended teachers are lady professors and they instructed the student who raised religious slogans to leave the stage as such type of acts are not permitted in a cultural event.

The teachers then met a stark objection from the students, as majority favoured the student who was performing on stage. The incident came into light and went for discussions as a video footage of the occurrence surfaced on social media platforms. The video went immediately viral prompting numerous ‘saffron’ offshoots to launch protest against the teachers. They have also initiated demonstrations at the college premises demanding action against the professors, and recited ‘Hanuman Chalisa’. A committee has been formed by the college authority and will look into the matter.

Meanwhile, the principal of a primary school in Lucknow was also suspended allegedly allowing some Muslim students to do Friday namaz within the school premises. The suspended principal was identified as Meera Yadav, and she permitted students to offer prayer at the designated prayer area of the school, reported The Wire.

The action against Ms Yadav was taken under the Uttar Pradesh Government Servant (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1991, after videos of the incident went viral on various social media platforms. In this case also, the right-wing Hindutva outfits created an uproar raising actions against the teacher. Lucknow basic shiksha department is into the matter and leading an investigation. The principal was suspended for negligence under government service rules.
