In his letter to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Indian Union Muslim League Member of Parliament PV Abdul Wahab raised his concerns and objections on the private members bill moved by Harnath Singh Yadav entitled “The Waqf Repeal Bill 2022”. The private bill has been listed for December 8, 2023.
The objective of the bill is understood to repeal the Waqf Act, said a statement from Mr Wahab’s office. “The intention of Mr. Harnath Singh Yadav in introducing such a bill is an attempt to intervene in the faith of the Muslim community and establish the fact of his animosity and hatred against the Muslim community and their belief,” said Mr. Wahab in his letter.
In this regard, Mr. Wahab also wanted to draw attention of the chairman to the fact that The Waqf board was established to look over the properties and the income generated by them should be used for charitable and Islamic purposes.
“And the purpose for creating the board was to minimize the government’s interference in matters involving properties to the Muslim community. A bill to repeal such a crucial practice of faith amongst Muslim community is against the interest of Muslim community and a violation of constitutional rights offered” the statement added.
“Therefore, I respectfully request that you should deny Mr. Harnath Singh Yadav’s motion to introduce “The Waqf Repeal Bill 2022” in the house,” demands Mr. Wahab in his letter.
