Prime Minister Modi has made several key announcements during his 12th Independence Day address to the country on August 15 at Delhi’s Red Fort. Stating that India is an independent but still developing country, the Prime Minister made a series of declarations aimed at taking the nation forward during his address.

Some of the major announcements are described below:

Made-In-India Semiconductor 

The Prime Minister announced that by the end of this year, the nation will roll out its first Made in India semiconductor chip, while blaming the previous Congress governments for claiming that they killed the project in the womb decades ago. Semiconductors are the building blocks of computers and other electronic devices as they are the materials with electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator and are essential for modern electronics.

However, the Congress swiftly responded, calling the Prime Minister a “liar.” The Congress’ general secretary in charge of communication, Jairam Ramesh, took to X and clarified, “One more example of what a pathological liar Mr. Modi is. Semiconductors Complex Ltd, established in Chandigarh, started operations in 1983.

Accelerating Nuclear Energy Capacity Tenfold by 2047

The second major announcement the Prime Minister made was about the building of at least 10 new nuclear reactors as part of India’s mission to increase nuclear power generation capacity by over ten times in the next two decades.

GST Reforms

Calling it a Diwali gift, the Prime Minister announced that the government would bring about next-generation GST reforms on Diwali. He said the reforms are aimed at reducing taxes on essential goods and providing relief to MSMEs, local vendors, and consumers.

Creation Of Reform Task Force 

The Prime Minister declared that to drive next-generation reforms, a special reform task force will be constituted. The major objectives of the team would be to accelerate economic growth, cut red tape and modernize governance. It was also announced that the force would make sure India prepares itself for the demands of a $10 trillion economy by 2047.

Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana: Employment Scheme Worth Rs 1 lakh crore

Aiming to alleviate the concerns of the country’s educated youths, who are unemployed, the Prime Minister announced a major employment scheme worth Rs 1 lakh crore, under which newly employed youth will receive Rs 15,000 per month. The scheme may benefit 3 crore young Indians.

High-Powered Demography Mission

Another key declaration made by the Prime Minister was the High-Powered Demography Mission, while noting that there has been a demographic imbalance due to rising infiltration and illegal migration in border areas. The Prime Minister said the launch of a high-powered demographic mission would address this national security challenge, ensuring the unity, integrity, and rights of India’s citizens are safeguarded. However, netizens have criticized the PM and home ministry for failing to address the issue in the border areas.

National Deepwater Exploration Mission Launch For Energy Independence 

The next big announcement was about energy maintenance. Highlighting that India’s large share of its budget still goes toward importing petrol, diesel, and gas, the Prime Minister declared the launch of the National Deepwater Exploration Mission to tap ocean resources, alongside major expansions in solar, hydrogen, hydro and nuclear power.

Building Jet Engines

Noting the merits of producing vaccines during COVID and UPI for digital payments, the Prime Minister said the country should also build our own jet engines too for our jet engines too. He urged scientists and youth to take it up as a direct national challenge to be fulfilled at the earliest.
