"Absolute Buffoons": Supriya Shrinate On Anurag Thakur's Voter Claim In Wayanad's 'Chounderi'
Wayanad, Kerala: The local Congress leadership on Thursday (August 13) dismissed the claim raised by BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur that voters of multiple religions were registered in a house named “Chaunderi” in booth No. 41 of the Kalpetta Assembly segment. The party clarified that “Chaunderi” is a region in Wayanad, not a house name, and explained that it is therefore normal for many different households within that region to have the name associated with their address.
Thakur, on Wednesday (August 14), raised “vote chori (vote theft)” allegations in the Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour, and Kannauj parliamentary seats. In a press conference, BJP leader claimed that fake voting took place in the Wandoor, Eranad, Kalpetta, and Thiruvambadi assembly constituencies of the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, where Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi emerged as the winner.

In a Facebook post, Congress leader and Wayanad District Panchayat President Samshad Marakkar flagged the false allegations raised by Thakur.
In the post, Marakkar stated that the issue raised by Thakur was from his hometown. He explained that the place, once known as “Chamundeswari Kunnu”, has gradually become known as “Chounderi” or “Chounderi Kunnu.” In that area, people from diverse communities—including Hindus, Christians, Muslims, as well as those belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes—all use “Chounderi” or “Chounderi Kunnu” as part of their family name or address, he added.
To assume they all live in the same house is a baseless and foolish claim, Congress leader remarked.
Besides, Asianet, a local news channel, also clarified Thakur’s allegation by visiting a household in Chounderi where, according to the BJP leader’s claim, two voters of different religions were supposed to be living together. In reality, the channel’s report showed that the two were residing in separate houses.
Sharing the report, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate slammed Anurag Thakur and the BJP in strong words. Calling him “Anurag ‘Goli Mari’ Thakur,” she wrote that the BJP leader’s claim was that 4,000 voters of different religions lived in a single house named “Chounderi” in Wayanad. “Well, ‘Chounderi’ is the name of the region, not a house number!” Shrinate clarified.
