"All The Best For The Future": Shashi Tharoor Wishes Sakshi Malik twitter.com/shashitharoor

“All the best for the future, #Sakshi,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor wished Olympic medalist and ace wrestler Sakshi Malik. Senior Congress leader has unexpectedly met Sakhi Malik and her husband Satyavrat Kadian on Friday on his flight to Thiruvananthapuram. He shared a photograph with them in his X handle and wrote a post mentioning, “Delighted to find myself” next to wrestler and husband.

Shashi Tharoor wrote on X: “Delighted to find myself next to Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyavrat Kadian on my flight to Thiruvananthapuram this morning. She is going to deliver a lecture at the university. Glad to see she has landed on her feet after the sad setback of her harassment and quitting. All the best for the future, #Sakshi !”

On December last year, Sakshi Malik announced that she is quitting the sport, expressing disappointment over Sanjay Singh, close associate of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was elected as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Congress has extended support to Sakshi Malik and wrestlers in their fight for justice.

Three days after the elections, the Sports ministry has suspended the new WFI panel arguing that it has been formed by completely ignoring the existing rules and regulations. Following, Indian Olympic Association (IOC) formed a three member ad-hoc body to oversee the affairs of the WFI.

In last week, Sakshi Malik criticised suspended WFI for organising national championships and distributing fake certificates. “How can a suspended person of the organization misuse the money of the organization?,” she tweeted.

On January 18 last year, the top wrestlers in India including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat launched a protest at Jantar Mantar against Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexual harassment of women wrestlers. Thereby, Brij Bhushan, helming WFI for past 12 years had to step down from the position.

However, the protest had to end abruptly on May 28 when Delhi Police stepped in and forcefully removed them from the protest site. On June 25, announcing the end of their agitation, wrestlers said that they will fight in court.
