Ambala Sikh Protest: Tense Situation As Police Fires Tear Gas Shells At Demonstrators
Ambala, Haryana: Situation remained tense in Ambala after police fired tear gas shells at Sikh protesters amid the Panjokhra Sahib controversy in Ambala. The protesters are demanding the release of those arrested in connection with the Gursimran Mand case.
Police arrested two persons over the Aug 7 assault on Ludhiana-based International Anti-Khalistan Terrorist Front (IAKTF) chief Gursimran Singh Mand at Panjokhra Sahib village. The arrested, Harvinder Singh and Anmol Singh, both residents of Panjokhra Sahib, were produced before a district court and remanded in 14-day judicial custody. Police had maintained they were picked up only for questioning.

The incident triggered resentment among sections of the Sikh community. Several Sikh organisations and community members have questioned the arrests, alleging that police have not yet acted on complaints against Mand and his son Bhavjot Singh. The complaints relate to an alleged violation of gurdwara protocol on Gurpurb and an incident in which their car allegedly rammed and injured Sikh devotees
Notably, the protesters have moved towards the Delhi–Amritsar National Highway, where they are attempting to block the highway.
