Amravati, Andhra Pradesh: Amravati capital city construction, one of the long-pending dreams of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu since his first tenure as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh since the state’s bifurcation, is all set to commence in January next year, according to an announcement made by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana.
The chief minister’s dream got a booster when the Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the 2024-25 Union budget, announced Rs 15,000 crore for the development of the initial phase of the Amaravati greenfield capital city in Andhra Pradesh, which had been pending due to the inadequate or zero fund allocations for the last few years. The project is expected to have required a total investment of Rs 26,000 crore.

Minister Narayana revealed the tenders for 360 km of trunk roads and tower constructions on Friday after a cabinet sub-committee meeting, adding that it will be finalized by the end of December. According to a report by The New Indian Express, stalled projects and their agreements have been cancelled, and the committee has decided to reallocate lands originally assigned during the previous TDP government, alongside allotting lands to new organizations.
The minister noted that at least 131 organizations were allotted lands before 2019, but they failed to proceed with development, adding that the committee has decided to give an extension to these organizations to complete their projects.

Talking about the project’s materialization, Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra said the Amaravati Capital City project is an example of swift decision-making, reflecting the TDP-led NDA government’s commitment to accelerating development in the State.
The Union Government has also promised additional funds to facilitate the project in the coming years during the recent budget presentation. With Chandrababu Naidu’s ascension to power in Andhra Pradesh for another term after the NDA’s return to a third term at the Centre with the support of TDP, the chief minister’s long-cherished dream project received a revival.
