Nirmala Sitharaman Announces Rs 15,000 Crore For Andhra Pradesh's New Capital

A request for Rs 15,000 crore for the construction and development of Amaravati as the sole capital city of Andhra Pradesh has been granted. Finance Minister made the announcement during the Budget 2024 presentation today.

The grant was one of the major proposals submitted by State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav in the pre-budget meeting chaired by Sitharaman in Delhi on Saturday.

Keshav reasoned that Andhra Pradesh remained without a capital even a decade after the state’s bifurcation. His government is now concentrating on developing Amaravati as the sole capital city and requested a Rs 15,000 crore grant in the Union Budget for 2024-25 to fund office buildings and essential infrastructure.

“Recognising Andhra Pradesh’s need for capital, to facilitate support through multilateral development agencies, ₹ 15,000 crore to be arranged for Andhra Pradesh for development of capital,” she said.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and redressal of the concerns under it shall be expedited, the Finance Minister said.
