Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mewani condemned the arrest of Congress’s Schedules Caste cell President Hitendra Pithadiya. He expressed his disagreement through his official X account on Tuesday. He asserted that criticism should be answered with facts and not with arrests.

“The Congress leader said that the arrest by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime shows ‘nervousness and fear’. “Gujarat Congress” SC cell president and militant Ambedkarite comrade @HitenPithadiya has been arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police last night in connection with an alleged controversial tweet. We condemn this arrest in the strongest terms. Criticism should be answered with facts, not arrests. This shows your nervousness and fear,” he wrote in Hindi.

Gujarat Cyber Crime department arrested Hitendra Pithadiya for allegedly posting a fake photo of a priest of the Ayodhya temple. A case has been registered against the Congress leader under Section 469 (Forgery for purpose of harming reputation), Section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and the IT Act of the IPC, reports India Today.

As per the complaint filed, Pithadiya shared an obscene photograph on X, and claimed that the man seen in the picture to be Mohit Pandey who was recently appointed as the priest of the Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya.

“When I cross-checked the claim in the post, I found that the post had been deliberately created using the photograph of a man who resembles Pandey. This fake post was shared with the intent of damaging the reputation of Hindu saints and hurting the sentiments of Hindus,” the FIR quoted Makwana as stating in the complaint, reports the Print.

The FIR further alleged that the accused shared a woman’s obscene photograph without her knowledge and despite knowing that it would harm her reputation.
