"Back Breaking Inflation" And "Record Unemployment": Rahul Gandhi Shares Video Of His Meeting With Railway Porters
Rahul Gandhi shared video of his visit to Anand Vihar railway station. The Congress MP met with porters in the station seeking issues faced by them.
He accentuated the “back-breaking inflation” and “record unemployment” through his video.
Mr Gandhi perpetuates his Bharath Jodo Yathra by meeting with several of India”s social groups. On August 15, coolies (porters) from Anand Vihar shared their desire to meet the opposition leader. On September 21, Mr. Gandhi went to meet with the coolies, as per the video.
Mr. Gandhi sought the problems faced by the “red army” of Anand Vihar. The porters said they are forced to work despite their illness. There were educated people with “BA. , B.Ed, Bsc, Msc,” but they work for Rs. 400-500 a day. One among the porters is an electrical engineer graduate. They also complained about not receiving any health insurance or basic facilities.
Taking to X (formerly twitter), Mr. Gandhi shared the video and said , “Met the hardworking coolie brothers of India at Anand Vihar station in Delhi. Having a degree of engineering, but working as a porter, suffering from such unemployment. No salary, no pension, no health insurance and no government facilities from Railways!
But they have hopes times will change, and I have full faith!”.

“Coolies are among the most hardworking people of India. From generation to generation, they spend their lives helping millions of travellers in their journey. That badge on the arm of many people is not just an identity, it is also a legacy they have received. There is a share of responsibility for them, but there is very little progress for themselves”, Mr. Gandhi was quoted as saying in statement released by Congress party.
He also claimed Lakhs of Indian youth are struggling to earn two meals a day, citing the engineer graduate who works as porter in the Anand Vihar railway station, due to record unemployment. And the back-breaking inflation has made food, accommodation, education and health expensive. “The shoulders of those who bear the burden of India are today bowed due to compulsions”, he further added.
As shown in the video, the opposition leader said bad weathers occurs sometimes but will change within few days citing the political weather in India. He explained the cause of bad weather for the lack of facilities for India”s poor people which imbibed fear in their minds. And in order to get rid of the fear and pave paths for the country”s development , the poor needed to be aided, which he promised to do.
During his meet with the porters, Rahul Gandhi adorned himself with the red uniform shirt that the coolies wear with their signature band on his arm. He even carried a blue trolley bag as the porters does, upon the request of the porters.
