Bengaluru, Karnataka: A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and attempting to dispose of her body by dumping it in a BBMP garbage truck in the early hours of Sunday. The gruesome incident occurred in the Channammanakere Achukattu area of South Bengaluru.

The accused, Mohammed Shamshuddin, a native of Assam, had been living with the victim, Pushpa, also known as Asha, for the past four months in Hulimavu. The couple worked together at a private housekeeping firm and had introduced themselves to neighbours as husband and wife.

The murder came to light around 1:45 am on Sunday when a local resident, who had gone to dispose of garbage near the skating ground in Channammanakere Achukattu, noticed a suspicious-looking sack and informed the police. A night patrol team arrived and found the woman’s body stuffed inside the sack. Her hands and legs were tied, and there were visible injuries on her face, with bleeding from her nose, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B. Jagalasar said the couple had gotten into a heated argument on Saturday night after Shamshuddin returned home drunk. The altercation escalated into a violent attack, during which Shamshuddin allegedly strangled Asha to death.

“He then transported the body on his bike and dumped it in a BBMP garbage truck,” DCP Jagalasar said, adding that CCTV footage from the area captured the entire act, which helped identify and apprehend the suspect.
