
Bengaluru Stampede: Karnataka Govt Approves Criminal Charges Against RCB, State Cricket Body
Bengaluru, Karnataka: The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved initiating criminal cases against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for the June 4 victory parade stampede in Bengaluru.
The decision was taken after the government accepted the final report submitted by the Justice Michael D’Cunha Commission in connection with the stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium that left at least 11 people dead.

The commission had held KSCA and RCB, event organizer, DNA Entertainment, and Bengaluru Police of directly responsible for the June 4 stampede outside the stadium.
The government noted that RCB invited people to the stadium “unilaterally without permission” from the police.

Last month, the RCB had approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the criminal case registered against them in connection with the stampede. The FIR was filed against the franchises under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal negligence after the tragic incident.
